The initial long-range detection sensor for APT is a Small Target Radar System (STRS) that is strategically mounted on the ship to provide automatic target detection. STRS represents the latest innovation in commercial marine electronic products. STRS combines patented signal processing technology, high performance transceivers, and extensive navigation tools together with an intuitive operating interface. This combination yields unmatched capability, performance, and long term reliability to meet your navigation requirements. STRS complies with the new IMO Resolutions A.823 (19), A.694 (17), and MSC 64 (67) Annex 4. The systems are type approved acc. to MED 96/98/EC.
When targets are detected, STRS will cue a camera for target identification and tracking. STRS scans at a rate of 80 times per minute, and is capable of tracking both fast-moving craft as small as 3.6 meters in length, and very small objects such as surface swimmers. With a range from 35 meters to 96 nautical miles, STRS continuously monitors all target activity in the coverage area and dynamically compares target candidates and movement with programmable alarm rules.
Originally developed for Search and Rescue applications, STRS is designed specifically for all-weather, all-season marine applications, and is capable of differentiating wave motion from swimmers and fast-moving small craft. STRS was specifically chosen for its enhanced capabilities in detecting low visibility small radar targets in high sea states (3.5m waves).
